Wild World - Cairns Tropical Zoo

If you fancy hugging a koala, touching a snake, or feeding a kangaroo, Cairns Tropical Zoo is the best place to go. Cairns Tropical Zoo, formerly called the Wild World, is situated in Palm Cove, Queensland, a mere 20-minute drive from the north of Cairns. It was founded in the 1980 and is considered as the biggest zoo in Northern Queensland. It consists of 15 acres of land where animals can roam. As such, it is a home of a variety of unique and exotic animals. Animals found within the area include red pandas, dingoes, possum, crocodiles, wombats, and kangaroos to name a few.

The zoo is a perfect chance to experience wildlife because it gives visitors a unique chance to view, hold and interact with the animals. In addition, it also holds educational exhibits and presentations that kids and adults will truly love.

Wildlife presentations are shown twice daily. Daily programs include kangaroo feeding, snake show (features a diverse number of snakes and other reptiles like monitors and dragons), free flight bird show, koala feeding and crocodile show.

The zoo is open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm daily except during Christmas. Admission fee are $28 for adults and $14 for children 4-15 yrs. of age. Visitors can also experience feeding a tame kangaroo by buying Kangaroo food for only $1 per bag. Plus, visitors can have their photos taken with either a koala or snake for just $15 per person. Nevertheless, discounts for students, groups and pensioners are also available.  

Aside from animals and exhibits, the zoo added other facilities and opportunities that can make the visit more memorable. A Wildlife Chapel was built in 1997 and is available for a romantic and memorable wedding. There are also cafes where hungry and tired visitors can rest and buy snacks or drinks.

Moreover, the zoo is also open during the night. The Cairns Night Zoo is a special place for visitors to experience the traditional Australian culture. Admission fee is $115 for adults and $57.50 for children. Included in the fee are drinks, a delicious BBQ dinner and transportation back home. After the sumptuous dinner, visitors will be given a spotlighting tour where they can interact with the night creatures of the zoo. Visitors will also learn a few Australian bush dances and Australian musical instruments.
