Lake Morris Rd To Copperlode Dam

Lake Morris Rd to Copperlode Dam is situated along the mountainous areas of Cairns in the northernmost section of Queensland.  The 16-kilometer stretch takes tourists to an astounding view of the rain forest resting on the western section of Cairns City. Copperlode Dam, basically the depository of 45,460 mega liters of water, is almost 121 meters wide.

Lake Morris, on the other hand, has a surface area of 332 hectares. Its name was derived from its engineer, FR Morris, who initiated moves to construct a dam that will be the depository of water for nearby coastal areas. The dam that costs approximately $6.5 million was completed in March 1976. Today, the said site is among the protected areas of the World Heritage Convention.

Activities

Lake Morris Rd-Copperlode Dam boasts of different activities that tourists, both foreign and local, can engage in when they are in the area. Bird sanctuaries are abundant in the place where families and single individuals can marvel at the different species of Australian birds. 

For those who love to eat with their families and friends, they can visit the numerous picnic grounds surrounding the area. Furthermore, for those who love quiet and cozy places to dine, they can visit the various tea houses located on top of the lake. These houses offer clients a friendly atmosphere where they can sip tea while enjoying the mesmerizing view of Lake Morris.  

For the sports-oriented individuals, Lake Morris Rd-Copperlode Dam has a spot for mountain bicycling. The place is a home to two annual biking events namely, The 16-KM Roadrunner Mountain Race event that is held every July and The Copperlode Cycling Race conducted in May.

Moreover, for those who enjoy touring at night, they can have a scenic drive along the Lake Morris Rd and be treated by the amazing view of Cairns. Night people will definitely enjoy sharing cups of coffee and stories with friends in the cafes overlooking the lake. Here, they can also write their books or just wonder at the marvelous Copperlode Dam. For the kids and the children at heart, they can either enjoy gallons of home-made ice cream that are also served in the nearby bistros.

Shopaholics will definitely find their haven at the Lake Morris Kiosk. Here, they can find a wide range of souvenirs and gifts for all occasions. The kiosk also has cafes that serve rich-tasting cappuccino and the authentic Devonshire tea. The kiosk operates seven days of the week from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm to serve numerous tourists that visit the venue. To sum things up, the Lake Morris Rd-Copperlode Dam is a place for the whole family.
