Esplanade Swimming Lagoon

The Cairns Esplanade is a spacious recreational site located at the heart of Queensland's northern capital, Cairns city. One of the main attractions in this recreational park is the Esplanade Swimming Lagoon. Perfect for a summer getaway, the Esplanade Swimming Lagoon is a hot spot for local and foreign tourists. The Swimming Lagoon, which can accommodate a thousand people, stretches out into the picturesque Trinity Bay.  Since it is located near the Cairns central business district, its visitors include locals who wish to take a weekend break from their hectic schedules. Because of its beautiful and breathtaking pathways, people jogging here in the early morning are usually seen in the park. At the same time nature lovers and bird watchers also enjoy seeing a variety of avian species flocking in the lagoon area.

The sandy bottom of the lagoon is kept clean by the Cairns city government through a series of filtration processes that can accommodate 308 million litres of salt water. At the same time, lagoon excursionists need not worry about the sea animals entering the lagoon because a wall was erected near its outer beach to stop crocodiles and stingers from entering the area. Security is also one of the best features of this lagoon since lifeguards stroll the area 24 hours daily. Moreover, the lagoon is open to the public.

Accommodations here vary from budget-friendly inns to first-class hotels, not to mention rooms and apartments for rent just located within the business district. Meanwhile, food stalls provide easy access for hungry travelers, while fine-dine restaurants are scattered along the surrounding areas, offering a variety of cuisines. For non-stop shopping, night markets also thrive in the Esplanade, along with the Fire Dancers hypnotizing watchers with their spectacular shows. On the other hand, boulevards and wide sidewalks provide romantic walks for couples.

The salt-water lagoon, which covers an area of 4,800 square metres, has world-class facilities, which include picnic and workout areas, gardens, barbecue grills and lots of open areas with large trees indulging visitors with shady and cool picnic spots. Bathrooms and toilet facilities for the public are also provided for free. For convenience and longer hours of traveling or sightseeing, the lagoon is open everyday from 6 a.m to 10 p.m daily, except during maintenance and certain holidays.

Whether travelers are looking for a "tropical escape" or simply a place to celebrate the joys of life, the Esplanade Swimming Lagoon is the ultimate vacation spot found only in sunny Queensland, Australia.
