Lake Placid Recreational Park

Cairns is located in the far northern part of Queensland, Australia. A visit to Cairns can take you to various tourist spots like Lake Placid and experience a peaceful, fun-filled day.

Lake Placid Recreational Park is found in the Barron Valley, a fifteen-minute drive from Cairns, Queensland. The lake is the entrance to the Baron Gorge National Park -- a habitat of various animals and fishes like scrub hens, lace monitors, kookaburras, brush turkeys, cassowaries, Ulysses butterflies and a wide range of turtles and ducks. Fishes found in the area include jungle perches, barramundis, eels and archer fishes. The Barron River has rapids that are perfect for rafting neophytes. White Water Rafting along the Barron River will take you down to the beautiful Lake Placid.

In contrast to the rapids of the Barron River, the calm water of Lake Placid is a perfect place to relax and have fun. Children as well as parents can enjoy spending quality time swimming in the lake. Tourists can swim without worrying about crocodiles and other dangerous animals.  It is also a premier spot for fishing as the lake is a sanctuary of different kinds of fishes. In addition, there is also a fish feeding place where tourists can feed the fishes and other water animals like barramundi, perch and sooty grunters. For the more adventurous tourists, you can rent boats, canoes and aqua bikes in order to travel around the lake.

For a more peaceful experience, tourists can either bush walk on the road trails or admire the flowers found within the area.  Tourist can also relax and just sleep peacefully on the soft lawn areas. In addition, families can enjoy their breakfast, lunch, and dinner either in the fine green lawn or in the bars situated near the lake. The bars serve coffee, drinks and snacks as well as delicious Aussie meals and drinks like the Devonshire tea. Plus, there is a barbecue area for those tourists who want to cook and buy authentic Aussie foods.
