Cardwell

How far can you go to find a location where your eyes will spot endless picture rainforest, sea, waterfalls and wilderness? A place where a bunch of land, sea and sky activities is possible?

Right at the center of Townsville and Cairns, lies the small, amiable, peaceful town of Cardwell. Approximately 1,450 locals populate the town, a seaside community of North Queensland. Before being established as one of the earliest residential communities in North Queensland, Cardwell was originally a port for the cattle industry. In the past, during wet season, there was a huge problem in the accessibility of the town, the trade was thwarted and later on aborted. Now, Cardwell has become one of the most famous vacation spots across North Queensland.

Being a seaside community, Cardwell is spared from being congested by huge infrastructure and buildings, making suburban living less expected. So, in this area, you will definitely have much time looking at the beauty of the ocean, the tropics and other natural enchantments.

Activities

But, unlike other communities, Cardwell is not only good for lying back because everywhere in the picturesque town is a string of activities that you and your family will surely enjoy. Walking along the seashores and bushes or going out fishing with the kids or with your loved ones may come on top of your list of activities. But if you're so thrilled putting out the bait and can't get enough of the fun seeing a sea creature at the end of your rod, you can try prawning and crabbing. In the said area, there can never be an end to your ocean adventure with several boat cruises that you can indulge yourself in. Head to the ocean, board on a bareboat yacht or houseboat and allow the breeze to cool you.

In Cardwell, there is as much to do on land as in the water. How does horse riding appeal to you? Discover much of the Cardwell in a seeming rodeo adventure. But if you are the type who's not scared off by scaly creatures, you might want to try out crocodile spotting and join some eco tours. On the other hand, if you wish to be sporty while vacationing in a serene town, you can do so and flex your bones while playing tennis, basketball, golf, squash and bowling.

Now, experiencing the Cardwell skies are just as exciting. Hold your breath as you take a scenic flight to discover amazing sceneries from above the land. For a more adventurous feel, try skydiving and let yourself drop to several of the most beautiful beaches.

Packed with great adventures, Cardwell also provides its visitors with memoirs from past eras. Still counting years, Cardwell Bush Telegraph Heritage Centre completes North Queensland's list of oldest buildings. In this old infrastructure, the development and history of Cardwell is still imprinted.

Meanwhile, don't dare leave the town without taking Cardwell Forest Drive, which is a passage drive to the town's local panoramic attractions. This includes the forests, waterfalls, swimming holes, spa pools and the creeks. This drive is a whole-day travel to fully awe all the nature lovers. The drive will bring you to several falls that are wonderfully impressive. Among these are the Murray Falls, considered as an entry to the list of the most beautiful falls in all of North Queensland. Delicately pretty with naturally sculptured rocks and clear waters, the falls have become a perfect spot for swimming, picnics and bushwalking. Also, don't miss to see Wallaman Falls, Australia's tallest drop waterfall.

Surrounding the falls are several camping and picnic spots. Behind Cardwell is the Blencoe Falls, which unfortunately can't be reached during wet seasons. But upon reaching the falls, there can be beautiful views of the Herbert River Gorge, which are equally captivating.

Visiting Cardwell to experience its rich promises is a very therapeutic escape from the insipid, busy, metro life. Cardwell is so rich a town where anything can be seen and anything can be done, so much so that vacation ideas become endless. With all that the place has to offer, it is actually safe to say that Cardwell is a one-stop-do-all tourist spot.
