Parasailing
Among the numerous activities that a tourist can enjoy in Port Douglas, parasailing is one of the most exciting. For those that require an introduction, parasailing involves a person being strapped to a large parachute that is tied to a moving speedboat. The boat moves fast enough to lift the parachute into the air as the boat travels through the waters. You are connected using a comfortable but secure safety harness, making sure that you don't fall into the water while you're in mid-air. In general, operators only allow one person to parasail per boat though the larger parachutes and harnesses can accommodate up to three people.
This provides tourists with a breathtaking view from above the Port's crystal blue waters, as well an incredible adrenaline rush. The experience is often described as exhilarating, with your body being carried through the air at high speed, the wind in your hair, the sun in your face, and best possible viewpoint of the natural beauty of the beaches. If you can reach a high point, you can take in the sight of the surrounding hills and the port itself. Being dunked into the water at the end of the trip is also an available option for tourists who are feeling a bit more adventurous though dunking is not recommended for the faint of heart. Located near the Marina, the boats and equipment are easily accessible from the numerous hotels and resorts in the area.
Due to safety concerns, please be aware that weather conditions can limit the availability of parasailing. To avoid accidents and injuries, parasailing is generally not allowed during periods of high wind velocity. Your safety in the waters, should you choose to be dunked, is also a paramount concern so the boats are advised to avoid areas where box jellyfish, also known as box stingers, to prevent tourists from being poisoned.
