Rainforest Habitat

In Port Douglas, local and foreign tourists are enthralled by the beauty and splendor of the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary. The whole idea of this reserve is to help visitors learn how to understand and appreciate the rainforest's flora and fauna by letting them experience this up close and personal. A wildlife park that has mixed immersion exhibits, the Rainforest Habitat is built on a vast eight acres of land recreated to display the world's natural environment. It is home to over 180 different species from grasslands, woodlands, wetlands and even rainforests. Constructed back in 1988, the sanctuary has two environments that have specially made cyclone-proof cloth shades and two with open-air exhibits.  Guests join the regularly-held guided tours to both observe and interact with the different animals and plants in their manufactured "natural environment."

Instead of risking accidents and injuries while getting lost, a guided tour around the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary makes learning easier for kids and adults alike. Among the favorite of the tourists is the interactive animal shows where one can even get a chance of touching a live snake.Efficient and well-versed in knowledge of animal life, the tour guides are ready and willing to answer all of your questions regarding the plants and animals.  The habitat may be a good place to visit during the day, but it is also recommended that the guests stay there until nighttime. This is because the park also has many animals that are only active when the sun sets and this is the perfect opportunity to see them.

After an eventful episode of sight-seeing, guests can head off to the restaurant that can be found within the park. There, you can choose from the different kinds of food available like salads, fruits, meats, breads, desserts and wines. The Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary is open every day from eight in the morning until five in the afternoon. The entrance rate is $14 for the kids and $28 for the adults.

Today, with over 1600 different kinds of animals present, the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary is the leading and most popular environmental wildlife park in the whole of Australia.  The park was also given an Advanced Ecotourism Accreditation and several awards from Queensland and Tropical North Queensland.
